OverviewPRACTICE AREAS: Tong Soo Chung, a co-founder of the firm in 1986, is of counsel to LRK, where his practice is focused on international business transactions and corporate work. Mr. Chung has been the head of Invest Korea, the national investment promotion agency for the Republic of Korea since February 2006. In addition to a distinguished legal career, Mr. Chung has an extensive public service background. Pursuant to President Clinton’s appointment, Mr. Chung served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Service Industries and Finance (acting) in the International Trade Administration of the United States Department of Commerce, where he was responsible for the management of the Office of Finance, the Office of Service Industries, and the Office of Export Trading Company Affairs in 2000. Prior to his appointment as the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Mr. Chung served as the Director of the Advocacy Center, also within the International Trade Administration, where he coordinated U.S. companies competing for infrastructure-related projects overseas between 1995 and 1999. While with the International Trade Administration, Mr. Chung worked with more than 750 companies on more than 1,600 projects. Prior to his Presidential appointment, Mr. Chung served as the Commissioner of the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pension System as an appointee of Mayor Tom Bradley (1991 – 1993). Mr. Chung also served as a Commissioner of the California Postsecondary Education Commission and the Los Angeles County Private Industry Council, and he was a member of the State of California’s Economic Development Advisory Committee on Asia. Mr. Chung served on the Board of Directors of the RLA (previously Rebuild L.A.) and the Constitutional Rights Foundation. He is a founding member of The Ethnic Coalition, and was the founding President of the Korean American Coalition, a non-profit advocacy organization based in Los Angeles and founded in 1983. Mr. Chung received his J.D. from University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1984, and his M.A. in Public Affairs from Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University in 1980, and his B.A. (magna cum laude) from Harvard University in 1977.
